பொருளால் லவரைப் பொருளாகச் செய்யும்
பொருளல்லது இல்லை பொருள்.                751

ஒரு பொருளாக மதிக்கப்படாதவரையும் மதிக்கப்படும்படி
செய்ய வைக்கும் பொருள். அதற்கு இணை எதுவும் இல்லை.

Nothing else is worthier than than the opulence
Which makes man wealthier though he is worthless.

Not any thing is worthier than wealth which is capable of making
a worthless man as a worthy one.

இல்லாரை எல்லோரும் எள்ளுவர் செல்வரை
எல்லாரும் செய்வர் சிறப்பு.                      752

பொருள் இல்லாதவரை எல்லோரும் இகழ்ச்சியாக நடத்துவர்.
பொருள் உள்ளவரை எல்லோரும் மதிப்பர்.

All men disregard the men of indigence;
All the men regard the men of affluence.

Though they are good in all respects, the poor men are
Disrespected by the people; though they are bad by all
means, the rich men are lauded by the people in the world.

WAYS OF AMASSING WEALTH

பொருளென்னும் பொய்யா விளக்கம் இருளறுக்கும்
எண்ணிய தேயத்துச் சென்று.                         753

செல்வம் என்ற அணையா விளக்கு தன்னைச் சேர்த்து
வைத்துள்ளவர் எண்ணும் இடத்திற்குச் சென்று அங்குள்ள
வறுமை என்னும் இருளைப்போக்கும்.

The wealth which is wantless light, dispels darkness;
Going to other countries wherever one likes.

The opulence which is considered as a true light will go to
other territories wherever one wishes to go and remove the
darkness of enmity.

அறன்ஈனும் இன்பமும் ஈனும் திறனறிந்து
தீதின்றி வந்த பொருள்.                        754

நேர்மையான வழியில் திரட்டிய செல்வம்
தரும குணங்களையும், சந்தோஷத்தையும் தரும்.

Yields virtue and also pleasure;opulence
Faultlessly accumulated knowing its excellence.  

The wealth which is hoarded in good ways without any fault
with cognizance of dignity therein gives to man righteousness
in addition to joy.

அருளொடும் அன்பொடும் வாராப் பொருளாக்கம்
புல்லார் புரள விடல்.                              755

கருணைக்கும், அன்புக்கும் எதிராகக் கிடைத்த செல்வத்தால்
வரும் முன்னேற்றம் நிலைக்காது. அதைக்கண்டு
இன்புறாமல் தீமை என்று தள்ளிவிட வேண்டும்.

Accumulation of riches devoid with love and grace
Should not be allowed but shunned as bad.

Making money without courtesy and love should be disallowed
but should be abandoned as it is a bad way.

உறுபொருளும் உல்கு பொருளும்தன் ஒன்னார்த்
தெறுபொருளும் வேந்தன் பொருள்.                  756

இயற்கையில் கிடைக்கும் பொருளும், வரியாகக் கிடைக்கும்
பொருளும், தன் பகைவரை வென்று திறமையாகக்
கொள்ளும் பொருளும் அரசாட்சி நடத்த அரசனை வந்து
சேரும்.

The esceats, the customs and the spoils from the foes
are king's opulence.

The unclaimed , the taxes levied and the treasures taken
by force from enemies are the king's treasure.

அருளென்னும் அன்பீன் குழவி பொருளென்னும்
செல்வச் செவிலியால் உண்டு.                     757

அன்பினால் உண்டாகும் குழந்தை அருள் என்று
சொல்லப்படும் கருணையாகும். அது திடகாத்ரமாக
வளரச் செல்வம் என்ற செவிலித்தாயின் உதவி வேண்டும்.

Grace, the child begot by love, is fostered by the wealth,
Abundant the nurse which is said.

The mercy which is produced out of affection, is cherished
by the nurse of wealth.

குன்றேறி யானைப்போர் கண்டற்றால் தன்கைத்தொன்று
உண்டாகச் செய்வான் வினை.                            758

தன் கையில் பொருளை வைத்துக்கொண்டு செயலைச்
செய்வது, மலை மேல் பாதுகாப்பாக ஏறி நின்று கொண்டு
யானைப் போரைப் பார்ப்பதற்கு ஒப்பானது.

The actions of opulent man resemples watching
From the hill, topmost, of elephants, contending.

The doings of a person who is abundantly rich, is as similar as
looking at the fight of elephants standing at the topmost place
on a hill.

செய்க பொருளைச் செறுநர் செறுக்கறுக்கும்
எஃகதனிற் கூரியது இல்.                      759

பகைவனின் கர்வத்தை அழிக்கப் பொருளைத்
தேடிச் சேர்க்க வேண்டும். அதைப்போன்ற கூர்மையான்
ஆயுதம் வேறு கிடையாது.

Accumulate the opulence; not a weapon else sharper than that,is
To quell enemies haughtiness.

If anybody wants to accomplish or gain a thing, they should
save wealth to subdue the insolence of one's enemies,
since, no other arm is found sharper than it.

ஒண்பொருள் காழ்ப்ப இயற்றியார்க்கு எண்பொருள்
ஏனை இரண்டும் ஒருங்கு.                          760

மிக உயர்ந்ததான பொருளை அதிகமாகச் சேர்த்தவருக்கு
மற்ற தருமமும், சுகங்களும் சுலபமாக வந்து சேரும்.

For those who accumulated abundant wealth in righteous way,
love and righteoussness are feasibly attained.

The principle objects of desire and virtue are once for all accessable
easily for such men who hoarded treasure in abundance free from any
bad way.
